If we humans die, will we live again? That’s my question. All through these difficult days I keep hoping, waiting for the final change—for resurrection! Homesick with longing for the creature you made, you’ll call—and I’ll answer! You’ll watch over every step I take, but you won’t keep track of my missteps. My sins will be stuffed in a sack and thrown into the sea—sunk in deep ocean. (Job 14:1-17 MSG)

Resurrection

It’s coming….

A whisper in a stifling tunnel
A slow rumbling, a murmur, a breeze
Whistling…Hot
Shifting and sifting…in and through

It’s the noise of untold truths  Continue reading “Give Me Grace : Resurrection”

Bow down to the Lord in his holy splendor! Tremble before him, all the earth! (Psalms 96:9 CEB)

I talked with a friend this week. An online friend that’s made the miraculous leap from cyberspace to my real life world. We met each other way too late in the day. Each of us spent. For her, a long day of travel and for me, the uptown ,downtown crosstown maze that makes my girls figure skating camp possible this summer. With early morning rises ahead of us we made the time any way. Breaking bread with a whimsical but reverent “yeah God”, we got down to the business of sharing our stories. Face to face.  Continue reading “Give Me Grace : Bow Down”

Five Minute Friday : Release

Release

In the online world we all have dreams. Large or small, we hold in our hearts a vision or reason why we’re here. Maybe it’s an online journal for family and friends, a sacred space for heart heavy words – helping us process our lives and encourage others. Maybe we’re taking steps towards a God whispered dream…we pray to write, to speak…to travel.

I’ve met so many of you in this space and I identify with the passion in your words. I want you to know the day you hit publish, on your very first post…you set yourself free. It was your day of release.

Maybe your story was shut up in shame. Or you were too timid to speak. The sound of your voice… holding you back in a world that would have you believe you aren’t… enough. Maybe you thought using your voice vain and hid behind the scenes. You sat in the back when God called you out. And now living in the tension of that just won’t do. You can’t deny your calling. You’ve been released. And I want to thank you, because your release, encourages mine.  Continue reading “Five Minute Friday : Release”

The Post I Didn’t Write…on Father’s Day

father'sday1
my free fall into the promise of Father’s Day

For over twenty years Father’s Day has been about the children in my life. I can’t remember when I last experienced Father’s Day… as a daughter. I don’t know if I ever have.

Because of work, my father spent his life on the road. He divided his down time between the families of the children he sired. I don’t think this ever went over well with my mother. She came to New York with friends straight out of high school and married my father after being here only 3 weeks. By the time my siblings and I were old enough to know the deal…well the jig was up. We only brought presents for him if we knew he’d be with us on a particular holiday. Father’s Day wasn’t a holiday in our home.

A chill comes over me as I write that. Whatever it is around my heart over this, is heavy and it hurts. It feels known and unknown. Finding the words is hard. But part of a holy work I have to do. Whatever it is, is bitter and bolted shut. The taste of blood reminds me I’ve bitten my tongue…for too long.  Continue reading “The Post I Didn’t Write…on Father’s Day”
